Every hard drive has a reserved “factory/service area” (SA) that stores, in modules, the information required for correct operation as well as variable state data. Essentially, this is the drive’s system area—the firmware.

Bearing failure / platter-lift data recovery:

Estimated turnaround: 2–3 business days, but it may vary. Most commonly seen with high-capacity Seagate drives: during operation the drive may tip over or fall, causing the spindle motor bearings to seize. In many cases, platter-lift recovery can be performed in a cleanroom using specialized tools and techniques.

Power the device off, do not run CHKDSK or “repair” tools, and do not keep restarting a noisy/clicking HDD. Any writing and unnecessary reading can reduce the chances of success.

We never write the recovered data back to the original device!
